Going Through the Motions

GOING THROUGH THE MOTIONS

"Everybody's doing a brand new dance now, come on baby do the goingthroughthemotions."

Ok, that's not how the song really goes, but when it comes to a lot of our spiritual lives it can be the same old song and dance.

We put on the church clothes, the church face, the church smile, and go to church and use church words, and tell everyone we are doing fine, or we ask people how they are doing, but we don't really care, we're just making polite conversation.

One thing I think most christians have in common is that we are go through periods of going through the motions. For most of us, it should be temporary, but for some people it can become a lifestyle. It becomes a religion that overtakes the relationship.

I am not sure what you are going through, been through, or heading into. I am not sure where God is taking you or where you've been taking yourself (led astray by the lies of Satan)?

I wish I had an easy answer to overcoming the ruts, status quo, and the periods of our lives when we have a hard time seeking God, experiencing true worship, craving a deeper walk, or growing and maturing in our faith. The key to overcoming and getting through going the motions however is a simple word: FAITHFULNESS.

Remain faithful during the times and periods in your life when you want to give up, throw in the towel, or just go through the motions. Read your bible, have devotions, pray regularly, don't stop going to church, and don't hide, justify, or make excuses for your sin. Don't judge others to take attention from your own weak faith, and most of all seek the face of God. Whatever you do, if it's taking you toward the face of God, you will break out of the "going through the motions" and you start "filling with the spirit."

"Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer."
Romans 12:12(NIV)
